Austin (November 9, 2016) – As a non-governmental organization with what ought to be an apolitical mission, American Gateways has tried to maintain its focus on issues concerning immigration and immigrant rights over the course of this election cycle. Having said that, it is just a fact that the 2016 contest has stoked dangerous levels of hatred toward immigrants of all backgrounds and spread countless lies about the community we are proud to serve. These sentiments and falsehoods will not simply vanish now that the polls are closed.
We remain committed to respecting, promoting, and protecting the fundamental human rights of immigrants everywhere, but particularly in our own communities. We encourage community members to join us by volunteering or making a donation, celebrating their heritage, and having conversations with family and friends about important role that immigration plays in making our country stronger.
